Rode the bike from home in Edmonds to the start motel in Everett. Tested the uplink to the blog from my Garmin cycle computer/gps.....see the Prologue link. Would have liked to symbolically dip my front wheel in Puget Sound but the tide was way out so didn't want to walk with my bike and road shoes over 50 yards of sand. Relaxing 19 mile ride to the motel.
Attended a rider meeting in the afternoon which was encouraging as far as the task ahead. It seems like a steady pace of 15mph is "all" that's required to be on schedule with the food stops and the next motel check-in. Sounds very doable but then there's the part of "doing it"!
There are about 40 riders in the group....3 are over 70 years old and have done these sorts of rides on multiple occasions. Given more time (Mike wants to go out and get a beer) we'll fill in the demographics of the riders.
Now to get a good night's rest (after a couple of beers filling our hydration needs) it's on the road to the East Coast.
Note: Very touching scene as Mike's wife Kathy and their kids along with Kathy's sister came up for our first group dinner and see Mike off. Lots of tears from the kids as they're sure to miss their father for a while.
