Dear blog readers. This is a great opportunity for me to do something beyond "just cycling across the U.S." To that end, I am soliciting "per mile" donations which will be matched 50% by me to benefit the University of Washington's Baltic Studies Program. This is a program very dear to me given my deep Estonian roots.
Please pledge a penny a mile or whatever you can afford. Given the math on a penny/mile...that could be donation of $34.67 (the planned mileage of 3,467) or however many miles I manage to successfully ride. (Not to exceed 4,000 miles!)
Please make your pledge via "Post a Comment" below and we'll figure out the math and details of payment when the ride is complete in mid-August.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and the extra motivation this means to me. Tom N.
I'm in for 3 cents a mile - I'll be saving my pennies during the month that you're on this epic journey!
ReplyDeleteGood luck.. I'll put up 5 cents for every mile you do!

I'll match Laurie's pledge of $.03 per mile. I look forward to reading about your adventures.
ReplyDeleteI can just see the I wheels in Tom's head turning over the calculations as his legs turn the bike wheels over each mile. By the way Tom just to help you out with that process I did a little back-of-the-envelope calculation, I reckon that for every $1 in pledges per mile, you will earn about 1/2 cent per pedal stroke...
ReplyDeleteBy the way I pledge the suggested 1c per mile for Tom. Good luck on your big adventure! Can't wait to see photos of wet, "cactus" riders in front of 100 different truck stops on the US/Canada border...
ReplyDeleteA just returned from Big Bear Lake where a May encounter with Phil Liggett inspired Tom to add a benevolent side to his cycling. Count me in for 3 cents per mile!
